We take you through the most important interior design trends of 2026. In this first part, we look at the general themes. In the second part, discover everything about the colours of 2026.
Sometimes the world outside feels like one big storm of news, technology and constant hustle and bustle. Everything is moving faster, everything is becoming more complex. That's why we long for a place where we can take a breather. More than ever, our homes are becoming a cosy cocoon: a place to slow down, recharge and just be ourselves. So it's no surprise that the interior design trends of 2026 are all about warmth, tranquillity and a healthy dose of personality.
Colours and materials have a direct influence on how we feel. Soft fabrics such as velour, wool and bouclé give a feeling of comfort and security. While warm tones such as terra, rust, burgundy and moss green bring balance and energy to a space. Combine them with soft pastels. By playing with colour and texture in your interior, you can create a very personal story – your story.
Despite all the technological innovations, we enjoy working with our hands more than ever. Handcrafted furniture, ceramics and hand-woven textiles – often from small, local producers – are gaining ground. Deeply brushed floors with knots, deep-pile carpets, imperfect glaze on a hand-turned coffee cup, these details tell a story and add character. They counterbalance the digital world, where everything seems perfect and smooth. We make conscious and sustainable choices and love a mix of old and new.
It doesn't all have to be polished: we embrace the chaotic and the unexpected. Grainy photos, asymmetrical compositions and playful combinations find their way into the interior. Think of a wall with different frames in various sizes or a mix of chairs around the dining table. This feels real, human and free.
Round, organic shapes are increasingly replacing clean lines: they give the interior a warm, friendly look.
Our homes may be becoming more compact, but that doesn't mean we're giving up on comfort. On the contrary: smart solutions make small spaces feel big. A kitchen island that doubles as a workspace, breakfast table and aperitif zone? Sounds great. Functionality and design go hand in hand.
Separate zones seem to be a thing of the past. Increasingly, the home forms a single harmonious whole. Continuous flooring, soft tones and cleverly placed lighting create a natural flow throughout the entire interior.
We don't just want to look, we want to feel. Textures will play a major role in 2026: spreadable cotton fibres on walls, embossed wallpaper, carpets that hang on the wall rather than lay on the floor, materials that invite you to touch them. This layering gives an interior warmth and depth. Add to that a cosy sitting area – a place to hide – and you have a home that truly embraces you.
In short: 2026 is all about warmth, experience and personality. Our interiors will become a story, a place where we not only live, but also feel, create and connect.
