Lamett is taking an important step towards sustainability by switching to inland waterway transport for the delivery of import containers from the port of Antwerp to Zwevegem.
After several successful test shipments, the company has decided to implement this approach on a structural basis, which has led to impressive environmental gains.
The test project in the transition to inland waterway transport has already led to an 85% reduction in CO2 emissions and has prevented 70,000 truck kilometres on the Antwerp-Zwevegem route. On an annual basis, Lamett expects to save between 250,000 and 300,000 kilometres, a distance equivalent to approximately seven times around the earth.
CEO Bruno Descamps recently visited LCZ, the company responsible for handling and transporting containers at the terminal in Zwevegem. After an extensive tour and observing the operations, Descamps gave his approval to this sustainable logistics solution. ‘This decision is another step towards our goal of making Lamett Europe more sustainable,’ said the CEO.
